📒 Foundation monthly report
The goal of the Hummingbot Foundation is to create a sustainable public good, an open source project that everyone in the world can collectively use to build crypto trading bots of all kinds.
We aim to provide transparent monthly reports that disclose all aspects of our operations, including how we are funded from exchange partnerships that rebate fees based on aggregate user trading activity using the Hummingbot software, as well how exactly these funds are spent and allocated to treasury, on a monthly basis.
Here is the report for January 2022, which contains:
the sources and uses of funds for the Hummingbot Foundation
how HBOT has been claimed by the community
total reported volume from all Hummingbot clients (it’s in the billions)
In January 2022, the Foundation reported a net profit of $7,273.
Transforming into a community-driven project…
Now that the HBOT governance token is live, the big transformation that the Hummingbot Foundation needs to make is to convert from a project in which one company, CoinAlpha, did the majority of the development into one where the Hummingbot community is overseeing the open source codebase and numerous maintainers, including CoinAlpha, are involved.
This will entail necessary growing pains, which is why the Hummingbot Foundation is gradually decentralizing control over the Hummingbot codebase to the community.
Some initiatives we have started to turn Hummingbot into a community-driven project include:
Commonwealth forum: the Hummingbot Foundation forums on Commonwealth will be the home for long-form discussions for the community
Snapshot voting portals: Connected to the Commonwealth forums, we have three different Snapshot portals for 1) governance proposals, 2) improvement proposals, and 3) pull request proposals
Technical Review DAO: We plan to elect a 5-person committee who will earn HBOT tokens for reviewing pull request proposals
Github project boards: Real-time status of ongoing foundation activities such as:
Pending Connectors: in-flight partnerships with exchanges
Pull Request Proposal Status: pull requests in the process of being approved

Community Spotlight: Solana DEX connectors
Ever since Hummingbot launched, our goal has been to provide an open source toolkit that allows developers to build trading bots that could run on any blockchain.
Solana’s founder Anatoly Yakovenko has been an early supporter and friend of Hummingbot from the very beginning. Likewise, we have always believed that Solana’s vision of a fast, resilient blockchain was necessary to support the needs of high-performance financial applications.
That’s why we’re excited to announce that one of the first community-led initiatives at the Hummingbot Foundation is building integration for the Solana blockchain and the DEXs on it.
We are excited to announce the passage of a Hummingbot Governance Proposal that allocates 2.5 million HBOT to fund development of Solana DEX connectors, led by Dipfit and other developers in the Gateway-V2 feature branch.
